Technology Update

Sometimes when you get old, you need a boost of technology update.

I’m not asking anyone to buy anything here, but at least update yourself about the latest technologies available on the market.

I went to PIKOM fair today, didn’t see much new stuffs, but would like to share some info with everyone.

**If you find this article a bit bias towards certain brands, my apologies; cause I didn’t have enough time to explore all the things. Hey, knowledge is everywhere! You’ve got to keep learning.

1. Super LED by LG

Saw this high energy savings Super LED from LG. Save some extra 25% energy compared to LED, and some 45% compared to conventional LCD. (Not sure about how true it is, but worth to know.)

2. Flicker-Free 3D display by LG

Coming out soon, perhaps next month. So much better than the active shutter 3D glasses you have to wear. This flicker-free 3D display has larger viewing angles and better light penetration. Best of all, no batteries on the glasses = less weight on the glasses.

Take a look at LG Cinema 3D USA for more info.

3. HD+ and High Gamut Range Professional LCD Display by Asus

This stunning LCD Display by Asus produces some beautiful colours on the screen. HD+ because it displays image beyond HD (conventional HD : 1920 x 1080) and the High Gamut Range ensures that the colour representation is as accurate as possible. In short, more natural photographs with HD+ quality. Visit site: PA246Q

4. Docking Tablets.

Instead of just getting a tablet, get one with docks enabled. Like the one from Asus Eee Pad.

image

Unlike other tablets in the market (including iPad), this one yields a higher resolution screen, with support of HD video. Best of all, the extra docking is included with the whole package, and you can get up to 16 hours* of battery with the dock.

Take a look at the video. Loved it very much!

And according to many posts on Facebook, everyone can’t wait to get their hands on this Transformer. A charmer indeed! Visit site: Eee Pad Transformer TF101

5. Sandy Bridge: 2nd Generation Intel i3/i5/i7 processors.

I know this news has been here for quite some time, several months ago, still worth a share for those out there looking for a new laptop or computer soon. The Sandy Bridge processors has got a higher memory bandwidth and they come with built in graphics on (processor) die. Better graphics performance? Definitely. However, discrete graphics is always better than built in. =D

6. P1 WiMAX upgrading to LTE-TDD

Very new news update, where WiMAX would be launching LTE-TDD (long-term evolution-time division duplex) network by the end of 2010, (hopefully no delays). This technology would enhance wireless access speeds, with top speed reaching 120Mbps (equivalent to 30MB/s or approx. 3000 KB/s). The best thing is, you can simply upgrade your existing P1 WiMAX network by a software update. Read the news on The Star Tech Central.

Web surfing on bus

With the convenience of 3G, I’m posting the first post from the bus!

Well, as technology improve so quickly, I believe that everyone should try to catch up.

The learning process should be a continuous one, that’s why the elderly should always try to learn harder and faster. The more you learn, the better you are!

Anyways, I’ve been busy for the past few days, and will be so for the next few days as well.

One thing for certain, I gained an important lesson yesterday: Penny wise, pound foolish.

Stop spending money on cheap stuffs. They’ll waste your time, and more of your money. Plus, with all the wastes you’re generating, they’re not good for the environmental at all. Always buy quality stuffs, because they lasts longer and you have less headache.

Just something to share with everyone. More to come.

Does camera matters?

When people started complaining that they don’t have enough equipments, or when they need more lenses, better cameras… go back to the basics. Take a look at this video… entire portraiture shoot used only iPhone 3GS… some lousy camera there…

The iPhone Fashion Shoot - Lee Morris Shoots With The 3GS Fstoppers from FStoppers on Vimeo.

Does your camera really matters? Or the person behind the camera really matters?

KLIA Express / Transit

I must say, the KLIA Transit is so far the best public transport in Malaysia. PERIOD.

Fast and efficient. Quiet and smooth. Clean and comfortable.

A ride from KL sentral to Putrajaya was a fantastic and a smooth one. Saved me 1 hour of waiting time for other public transports.

When is KTM going to upgrade the trains ah? Shouldn’t we be moving forward?

3D movies at home… Possible?

YES! IT IS POSSIBLE…

Many TV manufacturers are coming out with their 3D plasma TV for home consumers. Which means, you can bring AVATAR 3D back home to watch! YEAH!

3d-hts-bg-top

Panasonic is one of the first company to introduce their Plasma with 3D Display technology. You can visit http://www.panasonic.com/3D/ for more information. Nonetheless, you still need to wear the shutter glasses to view the 3D movies. Normal 2D movies can still be watched without the 3D glasses.

And sorry, 2D movies cannot magically be converted into 3D movies… haha… I guess we’ll just have to wait for the technology to arrive…

Apple iPad

Apple just released their iPad… expect that the low price of it (starting price at $499) would be a great deal for everyone…

Untitled-1

Well, not quite.

Why?

iPad is something like a blown-up size of iPod Touch. Something like this…

340x

Although it is very very thin, and very very light… and Apple was condemning that Netbook is totally useless, it basically can’t do all these things where a Netbook can do:

1. Run multiple programs at the same time, just like a PC.

2. Install programs from different companies, such as Photoshop or Microsoft Office.

3. Take photographs of me with a built in webcam.

4. A full scale keyboard. iPad is stuck with the old iPod Touch QWERTY keyboard with no numberings or symbols. Come on! You can use multi touch on ‘Shift + Symbol’ right?

5. Icons on PC can be resized.

6. No crazy names on the netbook. You know what I mean.

I wonder, “what’s next”? Can someone hijack the iPad and load in Windows or Linux? Apple, do something… or this would be bad for you.

Scientific Commercials…

Nothing is so scientific about the commercials, but… what a creative idea to run commercials like that… well done BioRad…

But still, I must say this… BioRad… your reagents and equipments are very expensive LOL! But, what you pay is what you get! YEA!

Thanks to CheeShin for his videos on Facebook… haha

Coolest Rides in Movies…

I saw this on MSN today… so, gotta share it with everyone…

Admit it, we just love cars! The sound of the engines, the screech of the tires and the pure adrenaline you get when you hit the pedal to the metal. And of course, superspies, superheroes and robots need a form of transportation too, you know, to help them in their bid to save the world. MSN Entertainment takes a look at some of the coolest rides we have seen in movies. They are no Ferraris, but they are cooler!

So… My favourite…

SAM WITWICKY'S CHEVROLET CAMARO 2010 SS (A.K.A. BUMBLEBEE)

Chevrolet Camaro (AP File Photo)

It was in: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Why it’s cooler than your ride: We had a tough time choosing between the Autobots, but we decided to go with Bumblebee because he turns into a really hot ride – the Chevrolet Camaro 2010 SS. In the first Transformers movie, Bumblebee took the form of an old and rusted 1974 Camaro, but later, thankfully, he took the form of a much sportier Camaro. When in Bumblebee form, he stands at 16 feet tall and is quite well-armed: with a powerful plasma cannon and a ring-shaped light missile launcher on either shoulder. Bumblebee is also a capable close-combat fighter, evident in Transformers 2. What we absolutely love though is how Bumblebee in Camaro form ensures his owner Sam (Shia LaBeouf) gets a little action from hot girl next door Mikaela (Megan Fox). Now, can your car do that?

Next… also another very very cool suit… rather…

GI JOE’S DELTA-6 ACCELERATOR SUIT

Delta-6 Accelerator Suit (Paramount Pictures/ Image Net)

Paramount Pictures/ Image Net

It was in: G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra

Why it’s cooler than your ride: It’s a suit that makes you run faster than your car. The Delta-6 Accelerator Suit is a mechanical exo-skeleton that allows the wearer to run at speeds of more than 100 km per hour. That’s faster than a Perodua Kancil. The bulletproof battle-armor suit is equipped with turbo-hydraulics and high-pressurized pneumatics, enabling the wearer to run faster, jump higher and hit harder than normal. The suit also comes with an ultra-lightweight helmet that is equipped with an advanced cybernetics heads up display (HUD). It shows the wearer laser-enhanced LED readouts from scanning and communications systems. If you think that’s cool, the suit also boasts an impressive weapons system of fully self-contained firepower. With the Accelerator Suit, running to work has never been this much fun. The armour and HUD might be overkill but who needs to workout when you've got an exoskeleton on steroids.

Another very awesome one…

The Tumbler (AP File Photo)

BATMAN’S THE TUMBLER

It was in: Batman Begins and The Dark Knight

Why it’s cooler than your ride: Unlike any other Batmobile, the Tumbler is a tank-like vehicle that has been described as a “cross between a Lamborghini and a Hummer.” The Tumbler looks meaner and it is said to resemble a crouching bat.  This meanie has a Vauxhall/GM capable of 500 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds. The Tumbler has a pair of auto-cannons mounted in the nose of the car between the front wheels. In "Attack" mode, the driver's seat moves to the center of the car, and Batman is repositioned to lay face-down with his head in the center section between the front wheels for better stability. In this “Stealth” mode, the Tumbler automatically switches off its lights and reduces the engine sound enormously, resulting in making the car very hard to find in dark places. In The Dark Knight, Batman ejects from the Tumbler in the Batpod, a super cool motorcycle formed by the front wheels and struts of the Tumbler. Two for the price of one – we like!

So… for the other 7 cars that made to the top 10 list… click here to view them… :) Very very cool indeed!

Dell made my day today!!!

Two days ago, I called Dell, “I’ve got some problems with my USB ports.”

Although they offered to get it fixed yesterday, I postponed the repair till today.

So today, the technician got to my house and had my laptop repaired. He changed my whole mainboard… and with it, a better graphics card built in…

And WOW, my graphics is now better than ever. My iTunes cover flow loads faster, Photoshop is now better with less graphics lag…

I’m so happy!!! Thanks Dell… You made my Dell perfect… :)

Late E-mail

Huh?! Kapersky is having an event at Jaya 33, and they cleverly sent the e-mail to me one day before the actual event, and I receive the E-mail like 9 days after the event….

WAH SAE!!! WHAT HAPPENED?!

Someone got something cool today…

True enough… the very cool thing turn out to be a toy gun… more specifically, bb gun…

I know that the gun is illegal in Malaysia unless you have the license to play paintball or you are the extreme sport's instructor.

Anyway…

the owner of the BB gun will not be disclosed to protect the owner, his friends and their safety from being caught by the officials… :)

So… here are some of the “Gun Models” to model with the gun… haha

The most excited guy in the room must be RQ lor…

DSC_9938_007

He was very restless and high and did some crazy stuffs with the BB gun…

DSC_9972_023

See… Played too much CS already….

 DSC_9974_025

He wanted to explore more….

DSC_9979_030

He just can’t get enough of it…

DSC_9982_033

RQ wanted to show off more of his muscles… haha… so he rolled up his sleeves…

DSC_9989_039

Then, it was Greg’s turn… as usual with his crazy attics…

DSC_9988_038

Trying out…

DSC_9985_035

DSC_9986_036

Then, my turn… Thanks to Greg for taking the photos for me…

DSC_9944_010

This one somehow looked a bit weird…

DSC_9960_019

This must be the funniest of all… with some one at the back looking at me… haha

DSC_9965_022

Anyway… this is what happens when there is no proper photography background to work with. See all the noise and disruptions… It ruined most of the shots… like the one right above…

I guess I’ll have to borrow the gun again to do more photo shooting… somewhere in the jungle… haha

AGAIN, I must emphasize that, the owner of the gun will not be disclosed to protect him and his friends from being caught by the armed forces of Malaysia.

Thank you…

ROBOCON

The UTAR Robotic Society under the Engineering Club organized a bit of an event at the cafeteria a few days ago… They had a bit of exhibitions as well as games to play around.

DSC_8624_025

This robotic game requires you to move the robot around the maze… The person who could complete the task in the shortest time wins the game! RM 100 to be won… but I don’t know who won by the end of the day…

DSC_8632_028

A friend of mine was explaining about the robots to her…

DSC_8630_027

There’s nothing wrong with the picture, but the spelling is severely wrong…

It should be spelt “reCRUITment” instead of “recuirment”…

DSC_8636_032

Guys, make sure your spelling and grammar are correct before you publish it to the public! Don’t ‘memper-sia sui-kan’ UTAR students’ name…

Here are some circuit components I shot with Macro lens…

The microcontrollers…

DSC_8800_006

Some resistance…

DSC_8807_011

Colourful cables… haha

DSC_8794_003

They did fine and attracted quite a lot of people during the exhibition… It’s kinda cool to work around with robots sometimes… How I hope I could learn some of them when I’m free… sorry ler… no time…

New Blog Layout!!!

Hey, everyone! I've updated a new layout for my blog...

In the process of modifying the layouts, I'm reminded of why I had to study HTML. Although Blogspot uses XML and not HTML, I managed to learn a trick or two on how to reformat the layout for my needs.

In the meantime, I had the opportunity to tweak on some of the XML codes, which leads to a messy layout (in the page layout setting) right now... Haha. But thank god what you see right now is correct and not filled with errors...

So, what do you guys think of this new layout? Please comment. Thanks.

All new Nikon D5000 DSLR

Yup, that’s right! New Nikon D5000 DSLR has been announced two days ago and it’s going to be another big hit.

Nikon_D5000_Front

The Nikon D5000 may have slightly smaller screen (2.7”) as compared to D90, the screen is tilt/swivel enabled! This will give you the convenience of shooting images from high grounds.

With the lighter body, this 12.3 Megapixel DSLR camera offers a lot more features. The price should be about RM 3.5k to 4k… But if you can afford it, consider D90 instead.

This camera comes with HD Video shooting capability and the FX sensor would give you a lot more details than other digital cameras.

For more information, visit DP Review for the news release and DP Hands-on Preview for a simple review (The camera is still not available for purchases yet)...

PIKOM PC Fair is back!

Yes… the very fair where you can get to complete your PC needs is back… Note that I did not say that it is the place where you can get cheap stuffs okay… Some items are not cheap. Low Yat offers a better price during this season…

Anyways, I didn’t get many photos inside the exhibition halls, but I manage to get a few photos outside the hall and the Mandarin Oriental hotel beside the KL Convention Centre.

Here’s Greg, with his mind in the rushing and hurrying world.

DSC_5536_032

*Sorry greg, it’s slightly blur… Out of focus… heh heh… Slow shutter and wrong focus point… haha

My friend, Wei Shun, and I didn’t expect that we would end up spending more than half an hour in the hotel… just shooting flowers!

Here are some orchidsDSC_5556

More brilliant flowers…DSC_5565_051e

DSC_5585

One of the chandeliers around the hotel…

DSC_5571_054

Some of the stuffs that may be cheap include 2.5” external HDD (WD 320GB RM 208) and other memory devices. Make sure you tour around first before you buy… or else you may end up paying more than you should :)

EOE Online Photo Printing

Yesterday, Ce-Yan announced that she’d won a prize from EOE Online and it got me curious. So, I visited the EOE website and got hooked on the price for the photo printing!

EOE Online Photo Printing, by far, offers the lowest photo printing price among all the other online photo printing services in Malaysia. I must say, their price is highly competitive.

So, how much EXACTLY???

Eoe.com.my

Is the price good enough?! INDEED!!! (current promotion only)

I have a whole stack of DVDs containing all the photos and I don’t think that’s the best way to show off your photographs to your friends. Since the price offered is so low, I took this opportunity to have them printed.

EOE, also known as East Ocean e-Imaging, offers this fantastic photo printing service at home. Instead of getting stuck in the traffic, you can do all the printing easily via internet.

Basically, all you have to do is just get yourself an account (of course!) and upload your photographs. It is THAT easy. But the easy upload doesn’t support Firefox though.

Anyway, you pick your photographs, then upload them. Just sit back and relax… The auto uploader will help you upload all the photos automatically.

Did I mention that they have Photo Album service with 2GB of storage space? You can share your photo albums online, and print the photos whenever you needed them! That’s convenient!

The uploading speed may be slightly slow, but if you’ve got a fast internet connection, I’m sure this is not a problem… Unless you’re still living in Ice-Age Era… haha TM Net - 1515…

Once it’s done, you can pick the size and quantity of the prints.

In the payment section, you have several options to pay for the service, instead of just by credit card. I’m pretty happy with it cause most of the online printing service requires credit card as payment. So if you don’t have a credit card, I’m sure you’ll be glad to hear this.

Delivery is done using courier service and as expected, it should be FAST! They even accept international orders!

I’m having 50 photographs of mine printed. Unfortunately, my photos seemed to disappear after uploading with the Easy Uploader. This problem is easily solved by re-logging in your account. Remember, do not close your web browser after uploading.

Still, something went wrong with my IE browser… maybe because I uploaded photos in extreme resolution and size… Haha!

Maybe when you’re sending your photos in for developing, please reduce the size of the photos if they’re extremely large, to about 2MB – 3MB.

Another suggestion to solve this problem is by uploading the photos to your photo album first, then only select them for developing.

Owh ya, if you print more than RM 35, you’ll get the photos shipped to your doorstep for FREE!!!

So, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Get yourself registered at http://eoe.com.my/ and start printing your stack of photographs! Grab this offer while you can!

iPhone is FINALLY HERE!!!

Alright everyone! After a long 2 years of wait… iPHONE is finally here in MALAYSIA!!!

iPhone

Today’s Star Newspaper announced that Maxis will be introducing the iPhone on March 20 at a ceremony in KL convention Centre.

Anyway… As for rumours around, there is a possibility that Apple might be introducing 3 new iPhones this year… with 32GB iPhone and iPhone Nano as one of them.

So I guess, to those who’re getting one, GET READY!

Update all your phone numbers into your PC for easy syncing later… haha. Be prepared! For more info, visit Maxis – iPhone.

Still, I don’t think that the plans introduced by Maxis is reasonable at all… visit the website and you shall see why. I did a quick comparison and the cheapest plan might be the 24 months contract… You should do more comparisons yourself.

P/s: One more thing, for those under other networks, you might need to be ready to switch to Maxis…. that’s the bad part… Haha
