I’ve been dealing with many Drosophila flies lately and they’re pretty small to me. For the sake of genetics, I killed quite many flies… *guilty* But I didn’t expect that these flies would come back and haunt the Bio students….
A GIANT MUTATED DROSOPHILA flew into the class today…
It has got black eye gene, vestigial wings (or rather, wing-less) and it’s definitely scary… Most importantly, you must know how to identify male and female flies…
In genetics, you identify the minute Drosophila by looking at the tail of it. If it’s dark, then it’s a male, and if it’s just normal bands, they’re female… Oddly, this mutated giant Drosophila seemed to have different phenotypes (characteristics) for male and female…
Male Drosophila, without fangs…
Female Drosophila, with the fangs jutting out…
Haha, that’s just Yong’s windbreaker… kinda cool actually. He got it from UK last winter and everyone definitely had fun with it.
